YOUR PENSION, IN PERSPECTIVE

See what your pension could become

Bring your workplace pension and SIPP together. See the growth, and the tax relief along the way.

Your starting point

Example figures. Replace them with your own.

Workplace pension

For a pension with an invested pot. Add NHS and Civil Service income separately below.

Your % is the gross contribution, including any provider tax top-up. Employer % is their own contribution, excluding your salary sacrifice.

Current values already include past contributions and growth. Years of membership are not added again.

Exclude the workplace pot above, SIPP and NHS/Civil Service annual income.

£80 paid in becomes £100 with basic-rate relief. Any extra relief you claim is kept outside the pot.

NHS or Civil Service?

Record scheme years and annual pension from your benefit statement.

Fixed salary and contributions. Figures are in future pounds, before inflation and tax on withdrawals.

Tax relief paid into your pension is already included in the chart. It is not added to the pot a second time.

TOTAL EACH MONTHBefore tax

State Pension is shown alongside your workplace defined-benefit pensions. The chart initially selects an age when all added pensions are payable. Each bar shows one pension type’s average monthly income at the selected age (annual amount ÷ 12), assuming each pension starts at its entered payment age (or your projection age if left blank) and continues. Amounts are held constant, with no future increases or new service. Excludes withdrawals from workplace pots and SIPP. The growth buttons above affect invested pots only.

Cumulative tax savings

Calendar year end

Each bar shows cumulative Income Tax relief and employee National Insurance (NI) savings from today up to the end of that calendar year, or the projection end date for the final year. Move the slider to reveal the coloured bars up to a year; later bars stay grey. Each bar includes all preceding years; the detailed table below still uses UK tax years. The first and last years may be partial. These are contribution benefits, not a forecast of lifetime tax savings after withdrawals.

April 2029 is included

From 6 April 2029, salary sacrifice NI savings are modelled on the first £2,000 a year. Income Tax relief continues. Ordinary employer contributions are separate.

How this illustration works

Rates checked 27 October 2026. Uses 2026/27 Income Tax bands and standard employee NI rates, held constant into the future except for the announced April 2029 salary sacrifice change. It is an illustration, not a payroll calculation or personal financial advice.

Tax relief is measured against the same salary without these contributions. SIPP payments receive 20% relief at source; further relief depends on the income remaining in each tax band after workplace contributions. Higher-rate relief may require a claim to HMRC and is not automatically reinvested. Separate HMRC top-up payments for low earners in net pay schemes are not modelled.

Contributions and growth are spread through each tax year, with partial years prorated from today's date to the projection end date. Growth compounds monthly with month-end contributions (fractional months are interpolated). Salary, thresholds and contributions do not rise. Past pot estimates use today's salary, contribution rates and growth throughout the stated membership period; a real statement is preferable.

Supports employment income only, ages 18–74, projection up to 75. Standard personal allowance taper is included. Other income, benefits, student loans, employer NI sharing, salary sacrifice minimum-wage checks and retirement withdrawals are not modelled. NI assumes a standard employee and stops at the State Pension age you enter. Age-based dates assume your birthday is today; they are approximate. Pension access is subject to scheme rules; selecting an age does not make withdrawals available then.

The usual £60,000 annual allowance includes employer contributions and defined-benefit pension growth. This planner blocks DC contributions above that amount or employee contributions above relevant earnings; it does not calculate carry-forward, tapered allowances, the money purchase annual allowance or defined-benefit annual-allowance usage. Results are before any allowance tax charge. If these apply, the tax relief shown may be too high.

NHS and Civil Service defined-benefit pensions must be entered as annual income from a statement, with an optional payment age confirmed by the scheme. If that age is blank, the monthly chart and income totals use your projection age as a clearly marked assumption. This does not establish when a pension is payable or calculate early-retirement reductions. Membership years are a record, not a reconstruction of benefits. No McCloud remedy, early/late retirement adjustment, future service, revaluation, or lump sums are estimated. State Pension is included by default using the full 2026/27 new State Pension rate (£241.30 a week × 52). This is an editable assumption, not your personal entitlement or a forecast calculated from your NI record. You can switch it off. The rate is held constant into the future. Civil Service partnership is an invested pot and belongs in the workplace inputs.

Nothing is uploaded or saved. Reloading clears your entries. This page has no analytics, advertising or third-party scripts.

Add each membership period or scheme section separately. Use your latest benefit statement, not the amount you or your employer paid in.

Start and end years are optional notes and do not affect the calculation. Only the annual pension already earned is required. Payment age is optional: leave it blank if unsure. If blank, we include it in the monthly chart from your projection age, clearly marked as assumed. Enter the actual scheme age when known; early-retirement reductions are not calculated. If entered, end year is your last year of membership, or this year if still active. Future contributions to these schemes are not projected. If entered, payment age should come from your scheme; it is not necessarily your retirement age.
